Best Lighting for Makeup Areas

When you’re applying makeup, you’d want to have good lighting or all your hard work will go to waste. Keep in mind that your makeup looks different under different lighting. It could look darker or lighter so when you apply it, you need to have the lightest so you can adjust if you need more or less colour or product. Below are four tips on lighting when doing your make-up.

Placement Light bulbs that are placed above your makeup area will create unattractive shadows. For a shadow-free and clear reflection, you should install the bulbs on the side panels of the mirror. If you need more light, you can use a table lamp, but watch out for the shade or cover. Some beauty supply stores carry special table lamps for make-up tables.

Color The colour or tone of a bulb makes a difference. Many people say that you look better under a yellow-toned light, which is true. Bulbs that produce a white, cold light is harsh on the eyes which could make you overdo your makeup. Choose something that has a warmer tone to it, like LED light bulbs with around 3,000 to 4000 Kelvin. This information can be found on the box or packaging of the bulb.

Wattage Since newer energy friendly bulbs started to become more popular in the market, people have a hard time picking out a bulb basing on the watts it has. The best thing to do is to look for a chart that shows you how bright these new bulbs are compared to a regular, more common incandescent bulb. Most of the time, a 75 watts incandescent can be replaced with 8 to 10 watts LED.

What if you’re traveling? Make the most of daylight. Doing your makeup under natural light is the best way to make it look perfect. For further assistance, comments and questions, contact our customer support hotline.
