6 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About LED Lighting

6 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About LED Lighting

By Michael Moskvin |

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard that LED light bulbs last much longer and are more energy-efficient than traditional bulbs. But there are a few lesser-known features that you should also consider when planning a switch to LEDs.

  • LEDs are cooler

If you live in a place where the Sun gets scorching in summer, you would love the fact that LEDs are cooler than other types of bulbs. As you may already know from first-hand experience, burning-hot incandescent light bulbs make it so much harder to effectively manage the heat. Switching to LEDs, which are far cooler than both CFLs and incandescent bulbs, can be a smart move.

  • You get full light instantly

When you turn LED bulbs on, you get the full light instantaneously. This, however, is not the case with CFLs.

You might be wondering: But how does this really matter?

Well, there are two reasons why this is not an insignificant advantage. One, if you’re running in and out of your living room or any other indoor space, you won’t have to wait for the bulb to become fully bright. Two, frequent cycling negatively impacts the lifespan of CFL bulbs. As a matter of fact, this is one of the key reasons why often CFLs need to be replaced more often than expected.

  • LEDs won’t leave you in dark

One of the advantages of switching to LEDs that they don’t suddenly go dark. Unlike incandescent bulbs, LEDs fade slowly after their estimated lifespan, giving you ample time to schedule a replacement.

  • LED bulbs come in different colour temperatures

Do you like bright white light with a bluish tint? Or natural white over subtle yellowish light? Well, with LEDs, the choice is absolutely yours. They come in different colour temperatures, allowing you to pick the ones that work best for you.

  • LEDs come in different shapes

From candle-shaped to Edison and fancy-round, LEDs come in a variety of shapes, meaning you are literally spoilt for choice. Here are a few of the most popular options:

You can find all of these and more in our online store.

  • LEDs don’t attract bugs

While this claim is not backed by a lot of scientific research, many users state LEDs don’t attract bugs. This is perhaps so because some LED bulbs used for residential purposes give off little UV light. Since bugs are attracted toward UV light, opting for LED bulbs that have no UV can be a good option, especially if you are installing them outdoor.
