How to make A One-Light Bulb Room Look Brighter

How to make A One-Light Bulb Room Look Brighter

Shine the light on me – or so the song from The Raconteurs goes. But that is kind of difficult when you are living in a one-room apartment with only a single light fixture and a grumpy, old landlord who doesn’t let you hook up another light source.

Short of moving to a new place, which anyway is not a feasible option right now given the way things are at work, what else can you do brighten up your almost half-dark room?

A lot, actually.

Here are a few ways to make the most of whatever light you have in your space.

Swap the Lights with LEDs

If I could give you only advice to brighten up your room, this probably will be it. LED light bulbs give off a brighter light and use less power — a win-win situation. With the right kind of LED bulb you can quickly turn your half-dark room in a fully bright one.

Recreate natural light

If you don’t have it, create it.

Short of banging a sledgehammer into the walls, it can be tricky to usher daylight into a room that gets little natural light. Well, there’s one solution, though — and it goes by the name of white LED bulbs.

What is so special about them? Glad you asked.

Natural white LED bulbs, as the name suggests, mirror the natural daylight as much as possible. These bulbs vary according to two attributes — Color Rendering Index and color temperature.

So what level of intensity should you choose?

Well, that’s entirely up to you. However, a color temperature of about 4000K and a CRI of 80% to 90% provides a natural level of daylight into a dull room.

 Use Mirrors

Mirrors can do wonders for small, dark spaces. Since mirrors bounce light back, space will look brighter. The mirror’s reflection will also give you an illusion of a bigger space. You can get mirrors at a very low price in most home improvement stores or you can find bargains and unique mirrors in thrift shops, garage sales, and flea markets.

 Floor Lamps

If you can spare some space, add more light using a floor lamp. floor lamps can also be moved around so you can place it where you need more light. get a basic floor lamp from a home improvement stores or like mirrors, find a unique used one in thrift shops, garage sales, and flea markets.

 Colour Matters

The colour of the bulb can affect how big or small space will look. Cool white bulbs give off a bluish-white light which is an idea if you want to give a space a very bright look. if it's too bright for you, you can always opt to use a dimmer which can help control the brightness.
